Journal of 1988 Search for Vitis vinifera silvestris in Northwest Pakistan

In 1988, Professor Harold Olmo of the University of California Davis and I journeyed to Northwest Pakistan in search of Vitis vinifera silvestris, the wild progenitor of Vitis vinifera. We were later joined by Dr. Maxine Thompson of the University of Oregon. The expedition and its results are described in the Origins and the Ancient History of Wine, McGovern, et. al. published in 1995. A more detailed report of that expedition, which followed the Indus River and its tributary rivers, is in preparation for publication.
